Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer, Wet Processes


Reports To: Engineering Manager 


About the team: The Manufacturing Engineering team plays a decidedly impactful role in our companys success. The team is a diverse group of engineers focused on developing, sustaining and continuously improving the manufacturing technologies for Alta Devices high efficiency solar products.  From R&D/pilot to high-volume production, the team works collaboratively with Ops/R&D/equipment engineering to drive the manufacturing process towards its full potential.  


What we need: Alta Devices is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to spearhead one or more manufacturing processes in our pilot production line. In this role, you will be hands-on and responsible for all technical and quality aspects of the process step(s).   You will also drive continuous improvements through operational improvements, development of new processes and advanced manufacturing technologies.  The ideal candidate is a versatile and open-minded self-starter comfortable taking on challenges with minimal supervision.  In our dynamic environment, a keen focus and strong work ethic are needed to see projects to timely completion. What Youll do:

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and maintain robust manufacturing and operations for processes such as;
    • GaAs wafer cleaning, etching and polishing
    • Thin film deposition and lamination
    • Solar cell patterning and metallization
    • Solar cell and module assembly, encapsulation, testing and characterization
  • Develop and provide tools necessary for management of the process step(s) to ensure product quality.  Setup methods, tools, SOPs, OCAPs, training, testing, monitoring and reporting.
  • Identify opportunities within the process step(s) to improve production yield, efficiency, capacity, safety and cost.  Design, conduct, analyze and enable methods to improve the process manufacturing capability.  
  • Develop processes and determine process windows and sensitivities.  Apply analysis to implement controls in production.
  • Collaborate with process, yield, and equipment engineers to identify, troubleshoot, and address process, materials and equipment interactions.
  • Partner with R&D, hardware design engineers and vendors to optimize process performance, define tool specifications and implement processes for high volume manufacturing.


Skills Youll Need:

    Minimum BS degree in engineering or equivalent and 5 years of related experience; MS and 3 years related experience; or PhD and 1 year related experience

    Hands-on experience in semiconductor/solar process, equipment engineering or related fields

    Experience in volume or pilot manufacturing environments, production ramp, and process transfer

    Technical problem solving and analytical capabilities

    Detail-oriented and results driven approach to problem-solving

    Competency with statistical process control methods and JMP are desirable

    Ability to effectively communicate across functional groups and levels within the organization

    Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and accuracy
