This position will provide proactive technical expertise to CPChem and affiliates Polyethylene businesses and facilities. The positions primary responsibility is to improve business profitability through plant optimization, technology development, and project implementation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate visible safety and leadership
  • Provide analysis and key input into the manufacturing process conditions
  • Build relationships with the personnel at the operating plants
  • Provide technical troubleshooting assistance to PE manufacturing sites. Lead and coordinate improvement teams at facilities.  
  • Build and maintain monitoring tools, models, and perform process simulations
  • Provide expertise in PE polymerization technology and serve as a company resource for development of fundamental correlations and models.  
  • Provide longer-term process improvement leadership and innovation.
  • Proactively identify bottlenecks, optimization opportunities, and projects to improve operating rate and energy efficiency.
  • Provide process engineering input for all phases of plant improvement or expansion projects.
  • Work with research chemists and engineers to scale-up new catalyst and process technologies.
  • Maintain knowledge of the latest process innovations, patents and competing processes.
  • Provide process expertise to business units.  


  • Minimum BS with a Chemical Engineering major. MS/PhD degree is a plus. Minimum 15 years of post-baccalaureate experience as a process engineer in polyethylene unit(s) is required.
  • Expert knowledge in gas phase polymerization techniques and polymer extrusion; previous plant/operating experience required.

  • Chemical engineering fundamentals with a demonstrated ability to develop and use process simulation software and spreadsheet tools.

  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with peers, clients, and business partners.  
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate in technical and non-technical business environment.
  • Expert troubleshooting skills, ability to analyze plant operations, apply process knowledge and identify root causes to various operational issues. Demonstrated ability to apply creative problem solving methods.
  • A self-starter with solid planning and analytical skills, requiring minimal supervision.   Demonstrated ability to proactively assess and prioritize process improvement opportunities, sell the concept, and lead implementation of improvements to make a substantial contribution to the business. Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
