I am posting to inquire about a Data Scientist position. I am very enthusiastic about this role and the unique opportunity to take on new data sets and a fresh challenge. In the 10+ years I have devoted to the life sciences, bioinformatics and systems biology, I have applied current techniques, mined large scale data (including clinical and preclinical databases), and developed novel computational methods for solving problems in the areas of genomics, large-scale data analysis/analytics, and clinical research which has led to numerous NIH/Rutgers awards, publications, grants, and patents. From the time I graduated with honors from the top public high school in the United States (Hunter College High School, New York City), through the completion of my Ph.D from Boston University while holding a full-time role as a Senior Bioinformatics Scientist at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), and now as a Bioinformatics Staff Scientist at Siemens my research goals have focused on applying computational and statistical methods towards large-scale disease research and personalized medicine.
 My ability to provide leadership, manage multiple projects and deliver quality scientific research is demonstrated by numerous initiatives that have lead to publications, government funding proposals, and awards. My current research is focused on the development of integrated multi-omics statistical systems biology and machine learning approaches towards the characterization of Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM) large scale sequencing data. My findings and preliminary results have played a critical role in funding renewal, thereby allowing our group to continue this research for the next 18 months.
 In my previous role at CINJ, my expertise played a significant role in achieving an NCI-designation of “Outstanding” for the cancer bioinformatics core in support of our successful Cancer Center Support Grant five-year renewal in 2011. My primary research interest at CINJ involved the identification of deregulated microRNA/mRNA in ovarian cancer and glioblastoma. This research produced one first-author peer-reviewed publication which was also presented at the IBSB2010 conference in Tokyo, Japan. My further research in this field led to the development of a machine learning algorithm for prospectively stratifying patients based on expected response to standard cancer therapies. The patented signatures I discovered using this algorithm have led to the design of a lab-developed test for ovarian cancer response to cisplatin/taxol primary therapy which is currently in the initial stages of a clinical trial.
 In addition to my research interests, I have provided computational and data science expertise to research collaborators and clinicians in numerous areas, including: large-scale data analysis and pipeline development using R, Perl scripting, Unix/Linux shell scripting, Octave, and other open source tools, quantitative data processing and statistical analysis (including regression, multiple testing), machine learning (unsupervised and supervised), dimensionality reduction, feature selection, data quality control and visualization. I have also developed bioinformatics software applications (and relational databases) in Java (Sun certified), C++, Perl/CGI, SQL, R, PHP, and JSP.
