While these more conventional job search methods are strongly trending, the traditional layout of building a professional resume is still very much alive and active among companies. When it comes to applicants in the tech industry, it is crucial to be straightforward with a resume. While different industry resumes vary, “there is a very fundamental rule not to let a resume exceed two pages,” Ali stated. It is important to make sure the resume does not bore the hiring manager but allows them to efficiently understand the ability of the tech worker and how they will fit in with the company.

Overcomplicated descriptions of jobs and positions can hurt the overall resume. Instead, applicants should design their resumes to very clearly describe their work experience with bullet points, simply stating relevant job experience. Ali added on to this when saying to “make certain technical skills and experiences are easy to see on a resume. Ali states, “A resume should highlight skills and abilities so that the recruiter can picture them thriving on their team.”

Common resume mistakes

Making things up on your resume is the most significant no go, while you may think you’ll never get caught it always comes out. Even minor information like dates on a job can be viewed as lying on your resume, and the recruiter would automatically pass you up for the position. Another mistake is organization.

Ali says, “Choppiness is a big problem for resumes, people who have too many jobs with short tenure. You should be prepared to have a plausible answer to warrant your job hopping if you don’t have project-based work.”
